Hysteroscopy

Hysteroscopy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure used for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes in various gynaecological conditions, including Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID). PID is an infection of the female reproductive organs, usually caused by bacteria from sexually transmitted infections (STIs) such as chlamydia or gonorrhoea. Hysteroscopy allows direct visualisation and examination of the inside of the uterus and the surrounding pelvic structures. It is performed using a hysteroscope, which is a thin, lighted instrument inserted through the vagina and cervix into the uterus. The hysteroscope may have a camera attached to provide real-time imaging on a monitor.

The procedure is considered safe, but as with any surgical intervention, there are potential risks, including infection, bleeding, or injury to surrounding structures.
