MASSH - PROLIFE Hospital Ludhiana Launches Statewide “Obesity-Free Punjab” Campaign Amid Rising Health Concerns

As obesity reaches epidemic levels in Punjab, MASSH - PROLIFE Hospital, Ludhiana has stepped forward with a bold and compassionate initiative — the “Obesity-Free Punjab” campaign, aimed at addressing the growing burden of obesity and its related complications across the state.

Punjab: India’s Obesity Capital

According to the National Family Health Survey (NFHS-5):

• 45% of women aged 15–49 in Punjab are overweight or obese
• 30.2% of men in the same age group are classified as obese — the highest in India
• In Ludhiana, 80% of women suffer from abdominal obesity
• Alarmingly, 7% of children in the city are also obese
• Nearly one-third of both men and women have high blood sugar and hypertension levels

These statistics reveal a silent yet dangerous epidemic, impacting not only adults but also children. Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his Mann Ki Baat address, emphasized the serious public health implications of rising obesity in India.

MASSH - PROLIFE Leads the Charge for a Healthier Punjab

In response, MASSH - PROLIFE Hospital has launched a 6-month statewide awareness and health empowerment campaign titled “Obesity-Free Punjab.” The campaign is designed to:

• Educate citizens across Ludhiana and neighboring districts
• Promote preventive healthcare, lifestyle changes, and early detection
• Provide consultations and guidance on weight management and metabolic health
• Offer up to 25% concessions on treatment packages for economically weaker patients

“Obesity is not just about weight it’s at the root of several life-threatening conditions like diabetes, sleep apnea, PCOD, infertility, fatty liver, and even cancer,” said Dr. Harpreet Singh Jolly, Director Laparoscopic & Bariatric Surgery at MASSH - PROLIFE. “Each month, we see nearly 60 patients with obesity-related complications. Through this campaign, we aim to reach the masses with accurate information and accessible care.”

Dr. Jolly emphasized that lifestyle modification, regular exercise, yoga, and a balanced die are key to managing obesity. In more severe cases, bariatric surgery offers a safe and effective long-term solution.

Empowerment Through Awareness

The campaign features:

• Community education events and free OPD sessions
• Expert-led seminars on lifestyle diseases linked to obesity
• Public discussions on nutrition, physical activity, and mental wellness
• Focused outreach to women and youth, who are particularly vulnerable

With this initiative, MASSH - PROLIFE Hospital continues its mission of “Healthcare with a Heart,” empowering every Punjabi to reclaim their health and vitality.
