On 30th July 2025, MASSH Hospital conducted a focused CME session on the theme “Is Bariatric/Metabolic Surgery the Long-Term Solution for Diabetes?” at Grills & Platter Restaurant, Nehru Place, Delhi. The session was led by Dr. Sachin Ambekar, Director of Minimal and Metabolic Surgery at MASSH Hospital, who presented compelling clinical evidence and global guidelines on the role of metabolic surgery in Type 2 Diabetes management.
Dr. Ambekar shared key findings from major trials including STAMPEDE and DSS-II, emphasizing how surgical interventions like sleeve gastrectomy and mini gastric bypass have proven effective in diabetes remission—even in patients with a BMI as low as 30. His presentation also highlighted physiological mechanisms, improvement in HbA1c levels, and long-term benefits beyond glycemic control.
The CME also featured advanced kidney stone case reviews and surgical outcomes, along with an insightful anesthesia segment on awake nasal fibreoptic intubation for managing difficult airways.
