As obesity grips Punjab in a public health crisis, MASSH - PROLIFE Hospital, Ludhiana has partnered with the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Moga to extend its impactful “Obesity-Free Punjab” campaign reaffirming its commitment to create a healthier future for all.
In a significant step, a Continuing Medical Education (CME) program was held at Siolova Resort, Moga, supported by IMA Moga. The aim was to raise awareness among the medical fraternity and public on the escalating obesity epidemic and the need for evidence-based interventions.
A third of the adult population in Punjab now has high blood sugar or hypertension
This growing burden prompted even Prime Minister Narendra Modi to spotlight the issue during his Mann Ki Baat, urging citizens to reduce oil consumption by 10%. The central government has also mandated statutory warnings on high-fat snacks like samosas and jalebis, signaling the seriousness of the crisis.
MASSH - PROLIFE Hospital’s specialists, during the CME event, addressed how obesity silently fuels multiple chronic diseases—such as diabetes, infertility, fatty liver, hypertension, and cancers. Dr. Harpreet Singh Jolly, Director of Laparoscopic & Bariatric Surgery at MASSH - PROLIFE, emphasized:
“Obesity isn’t just a cosmetic issue—it’s the root cause of life-threatening conditions. Through this campaign, we want to empower both patients and practitioners to respond with science, empathy, and action.”
The program also highlighted advanced treatments, including bariatric surgery, as a safe and proven long-term solution for individuals who don’t respond to lifestyle changes alone.
Dr. Sanjeev Mittal, President of IMA Moga, lauded the campaign’s approach:
“Obesity is not a personal failure, it’s a societal challenge. MASSH - PROLIFE’s work in this space is both timely and commendable. We’re proud to support this initiative.”
The event witnessed participation from senior doctors, general physicians, and surgeons from Moga and neighboring regions. Key takeaways included the importance of early detection, regular physical activity, balanced diets, and timely medical consultations.
With the collective efforts of healthcare professionals and communities, MASSH - PROLIFE Hospital envisions a future where every Punjabi can lead a healthier, more empowered life. This campaign is another milestone in MASSH’s ongoing commitment to delivering “Healthcare with a Heart.
