Kidney stones, or renal calculi, are solid masses made of crystals. Originating in your kidneys, they can develop anywhere along your urinary tract, which includes the kidneys, ureters, bladder, and urethra. Kidney stones vary in size and can cause severe pain, urinary problems, and sometimes infections. Treatment options of kidney stones vary depending on the stone type and size. Factors such as diet, excess body weight, some medical conditions, and certain supplements and medications can increase the risk of developing kidney stones.

I am Commodore.Suresh Ambekar VC,VSM Indian Navy veteran on 23rd march 2023 I had an acute medical emergency due to sudden retention of urine. I was rushed to a nearby hospital by my son we arrived at MASSH Super speciality hospital,Nehru Place.I was immediately attended in the emergency by the doctors and staff and later by Dr.Ankit Goel Senior Urologist and HOD. I must say he was very precise and accurate in diagnosing my problem and he suggested for a Prostate Laser Surgery. The surgery went well and I was shifted back to the room and here lies my main point of my observation the doctors, staff nurses ,helpers were very attentive and well coordinated I never once even had to press the calling bell.I was truly surprised by this professional work ethics and my 2 days went very smoothly.Having been to many Delhi NCR hospitals like Max,Medanta,Moolchand for various medical admissions I have no doubts that MASSH has created a niche and a culture which has set expectation's of patients at a very high level and raised the comparative bar.I congratulate the owners Mr.Hanish Bansal and Mrs.Mansi Jhunjhunwala to have made this facility with a truly wonderful ,ultra modern vision.Last but certainly not the least my surgeon Dr.Ankit Goel and my anaesthetist Dr.Anubhav thank you so much to get me back to my family healed and in time for Holi celebrations.Wishing MASSH many more success stories.
I'm extremely grateful to Dr. Ankit Goel in MASSH for his dedicated work and careful handling of my situation. His willingness to even come in on a Sunday to personally attend to my condition is truly appreciable. He is very confident and performs his work with extreme finesse. I was back on my feet in less than 48 hours with no complications. Highly commendable. Thank you Dr. Ankit for everything.

The best treatment for kidney stones depends on the stone's size, type, and location. Common treatments can include:
Treatments for multiple kidney stones include surgical procedures like RIRS, Miniperc, URS - Ureteroscopy, and Percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL). Consult with our urologist to determine the most suitable option for your condition.
Most insurance plans cover kidney stone surgery, but coverage can vary. It's best to check with your insurance provider for specific details related to your policy. For assistance, you can also get in touch with our health advisor at MASSH.
The most common symptoms of kidney stones include severe pain in the back or side, blood in the urine, nausea and vomiting, frequent urination, and pain during urination.
Kidney stones form due to a combination of dietary and lifestyle factors. Common causes include dehydration, high intake of certain minerals, obstructions in the urinary tract and metabolic disorders.
Kidney stones are most commonly diagnosed through imaging tests such as X-rays, CT scans, and ultrasounds along with urine and blood tests that help assess kidney functioning.
Yes, kidney stones can develop in children due to dehydration, poor diet, or metabolic disorders. Early detection and treatment are essential.
No, ESWL is not a reliable treatment option because of incomplete stone fragmentation, potential for infection, and, in rare cases, bleeding or damage to surrounding tissues.
Depending on type of stone, the size of the stone and the location of the stone, we offer:
Most patients recover within 1-2 days for RIRS and 2-3 days for PCNL. Minimal pain, quick recovery, and early discharge are key benefits of these procedures.
No, our procedures for kidney stones at MASSH are minimally invasive and performed under anesthesia, ensuring a pain-free experience. Post-surgery pain is manageable with medication, and most patients resume normal activities quickly.
Depending on the procedure, either general or spinal anesthesia is used to ensure a pain-free experience during surgery.
Untreated kidney stones can cause severe pain, infections, kidney damage, and urinary blockages. Surgery ensures complete removal, preventing any chance of complications.
Surgery removes existing stones, but lifestyle changes (hydration, diet modification, and regular check-ups) help prevent recurrence. MASSH provides personalized prevention plans to every patient post surgery for long-term kidney health.
